In December 2020, the NSW Government delivered the Pyrmont Peninsula Place Strategy to map out future growth in the local area and how it relates to the local community, local businesses, tourism and entertainment. 

The plan includes provisions for construction of two hotel towers at The Star Sydney’s site which would deliver $1 billion in investment to drive economic stimulus and create up to 2,000 jobs for locals. 

The first tower, a 110-metre six-star luxury hotel, will be situated at the northern end of The Star’s site and include a signature dining restaurant, other food and beverage options and world-class resort amenities. The second, a 140 metres hotel and apartments tower will be constructed on the norther end and showcase a hotel a new retail precinct, additional food and beverage offerings and apartments. 

While the Place Strategy looks to the future and harnesses the Peninsula’s capacity to deliver innovation, new investments and jobs, it is also focussed on maintaining areas that underpin Pyrmont’s rich history and heritage – characteristics that make it an attractive place for domestic and international visitors and a cherished slice of Sydney for the locals who call it home. 

In addition to The Star, the strategy identified three other key sites where development will drive new and additional jobs including:

  • Blackwattle Bay 
  • Harbourside Shopping Centre 
  • UTS in Ultimo 

Further, the NSW Government announced that it will build a new metro railway station at Pyrmont as part of the Sydney Metro West project, which will further support its plans to revitalise the Pyrmont Peninsula and encourage jobs, investment and economic growth.
